Flix: Loughborough Students Cinema
Flix was previously known as FilmSoc and is the largest and longest established club in the Students' Union(SU) - even to the extent that it was around a good few years before the SU even began
Flix is a fully operational cinema and films chosen by the members are shown weekly in the Auditorium in the students union.
Projection
All of the films we show are printed on standard cinematic film stock. Usually this is 35mm as is industry standard and is shown on a Cinemeccanica Victoria 5 projector with a 1600W lamp. This is the standard projector used by most modern Multiplexes.
However on occasions films are 16mm prints, such as showings for the Japanese Society. For these prints we have a Fumeo HL300 16mm projector. We also have a number of portable 16mm projectors and screens which can be used for race nights etc.
Sound
Flix has for many years operated off a home made sound system with a Dolby Cat 22 A-Type sound processor cards to give us a system which operates to Dolby A specification. However, with recent upgrades, this has been changed to a standard Dolby processor for full surround sound.
During The summer of 2003, Flix acquired a DTS-6 processor from Digital Theatre Systems, which means we have the capacity to offer 5.1 Digital Surround Sound to the specification of modern Multiplex cinemas. The Dolby processor acts as a backup should there be a signal drop out from the digital processor.
Committee
Flix is run by a committee who are a selection of members who are voted in at the General Meetings by a simple majority vote of the members. The role of the committee is to look after the day to day running of the society on behalf of the members.
Flix is unique as it is both diverse and specialised and so has a large number of executive commitee positions. Positions include:
Chair
Vice Chair
Treasurer
Secretary
House Manager
Publicity Officer
Head Projectionist
Film Booking Projectionist
Projectionists
As well as ordinary and assistant positions for most of the above.
